Questions from our training courses
These are the questions participants ask most often – with the answers from the training.
Where does the information in the title block come from, and how do I insert a revision row?
Insert the title block and revision row in the layout from the palette of non-engineering items; drawing is done in model space only. The content comes from Project Setup (project details/project data such as project number, address) and from the drawing properties (right-click the drawing in the Project Manager > Properties, e.g. DWG number, title). You do not enter revisions directly in the title block; instead, insert a revision row for each revision and fill it in via the properties. Revision rows are stored in the database and can be analyzed in the Data Manager.
How do I edit P&ID data (many properties at once) in Excel and import it again?
1. In the Data Manager, select the required node, e.g. Equipment, and click Export – "active node only" produces exactly one table; with child nodes, several sheets are created. 2. Change the values in Excel; do not change the column with the internal ID (PnPID), as it is used for matching. If the sheet is protected: Review > Unprotect Sheet. 3. Save the file and close Excel, otherwise it is locked. 4. In the Data Manager, select the same node and click Import. Changed values are highlighted and can be accepted individually or with "Accept All".
How do I get symbols from the configuration, e.g. nozzles, into my tool palette?
First open the target palette. Then go to Project Setup > P&ID DWG Settings > P&ID Class Definitions, select the class (e.g. Engineering Items > Nozzles > desired nozzle) and click "Add to Tool Palette" in the toolbar above the preview. The symbol is added at the end of the currently open palette and can be dragged and dropped to another palette.
How do I add my own drawing and project properties, e.g. for the title block?
In Project Setup under General Settings > Drawing Properties, first create a category (e.g. "Title block") and the properties below it (e.g. plant section, building); in the Description field you can store an explanatory text. Enter the values for each drawing in the Project Manager: right-click the drawing > Properties. Create project-wide information (e.g. architect, plant designer) in the same way under Project Details. Both types of values can be used in the title block and in tag formats.
How do I force a prompt for an edit history entry when a drawing is closed?
The edit history is kept for each drawing at the bottom of the Project Manager; an entry is created when the drawing is saved and closed. To require users to enter a comment at that point, open Project Setup > Project Details and set the edit history prompt to "When closing project drawings". The next time a drawing is closed, a dialog appears in which you enter e.g. "Drawing created".
Why does a question mark appear in the tag of control valves or instruments?
A question mark in the tag means that a component of the tag format has not yet been filled in. For instruments and control valves, this often includes a field such as Area. Right-click the object, choose Assign Tag and fill in all fields, including Area. Control valves receive an instrument annotation by default; you can later swap the valve body and actuator via "Change Body and Actuator".
Frequently asked questions
Which plant identification systems are covered?
The focus is on AKZ and KKS; RDS-PP can be set up on the same principle, as can representations according to ISO 10628. The Plant Engineering Infobase explains the background.
Is there a ready-made template?
Yes – ASEING PlantConfig Pro contains ready-to-use P&ID configurations for KKS, AKS, RDS-PP and ISO 10628.
Where does the training take place?
Preferably live online from your own workstation – efficient, without travel and resource-friendly. For every date you can also attend in our training room in Frankfurt am Main; for company training, we come to you.
How long is a training day?
A training day consists of four blocks of two 45-minute teaching units each. The days are not stretched – a four-day training course lasts four days.
Is there a discount if several colleagues attend?
Yes. A tiered discount applies from two participants; the training calendar calculates the price immediately when you book.
How late can I register?
Registration closes eight days before the start. The course runs with a minimum of three participants – you will receive confirmation in good time.
Can you run the training just for our team?
Yes – as company training with your project data and company standards, live online, in Frankfurt or at your site. We agree on the date and content with you.
